The Real Story behind The Finest Hours movie – and more Rescues

In 2016 Disney produced “The Finest Hours”, the true story of the U.S. Coast Guard’s most daring sea rescue.

This presentation delves into the reasons that caused two ships to split apart within hours of each other on that date. The mid-latitude cyclone, the new design, and construction method, and the inexperienced builders all contribute to the accidents. Also covered are the four rescue attempts (3 at least somewhat successful) where 36-foot motorized lifeboats tackle 70-foot seas, and blinding snow & rain to find the four boat sections and save over 72 of 84 sailors.

Wednesday, November 15 at 7:30 pm.

All USPS and GBYC members and friends are invited to this extraordinary presentation – with our usual light refreshments
