SoundWaters was founded in 1989 with the mission to protect Long Island Sound through education and action. They have shown hundreds of thousands of students and adults how to build a deeper interest in science for improved school achievement and to raise awareness about the small differences we all can make to protect the health of the Sound. The schooner SoundWaters conducts 250 experiential education sails each season for school and community groups and public sails for everyone throughout the region.
America’s Boating Club of Greenwich has partnered with SoundWaters for many years. Our Young Mariners program taught underserved children in Greenwich the basics of sailing and merged with SoundWaters a few years ago and we continue to support this worthwhile endeavor. We look forward to hearing future plans.
Bob Mazzone will discuss the ambitious plans SoundWaters has for teaching on Long Island Sound over the next 30 years.
Bob joined SoundWaters in 2016. As the Vice President of Development, Bob’s team is responsible for raising over $1.2 million annually to fund SoundWaters operations and ensure that no student is turned away from a SoundWaters program for the inability to pay. Prior to SoundWaters, Bob was the Chief Operating Officer of the Connecticut Challenge, an organization dedicated to empowering cancer survivors. A graduate of Harvard College with a concentration in Biology, Bob and his wife have lived on Holly Pond in Darien 27 years.
