Wednesday, September 22 at 7pm at the Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club.
Andy Papademetriou will take us back 2500 years for a look into the origins and
development of ancient warships. In this talk, “The Ancient Trireme and its
Modern Reconstruction” we will explore the origin, design, construction, naval administration, port facilities, and war tactics of these ancient warships. We will also discuss the modern reconstruction and testing of the ship by a team of British scientists and look into upcoming Trireme projects.
Andy is a retired Mechanical Engineer with interests in ancient history,
archeology, anthropology and ancient technologies. He is active in the
United States Power Squadrons and volunteers for the Red Cross. He is a
Past District Commander for USPS District 2 and he sails his 38 ft sailboat
in the waters of the Long Island Sound and beyond.
